BLOGGER // ALEX MORESCO
May 15, 2014

Well it's that time of the week when it's our absolute pleasure to introduce you all to a new member of the D'Maire publisher network. Alex Moresco is the editor of Street Style Chi, a fashion and lifestyle blog based in the Chicago area. Alex spoke with Team D'Marie about her blog, style and online branding.

DM: Why did you start blogging?

AM: Fashion and style have always intrigued me, but it was only recently that I started to really do something with it.  As a freshman accounting major, I started my blog as a creative outlet for myself.  At the time, there really was not anything geared towards the young adult that needs some style help and inspiration. I write about things that I find interesting, and that I feel people my age can benefit from. I focus on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. My blog has evolved and grown, as I have, since I started it.

DM: What is it you hope to accomplish with your blog?

AM: You know, that is a great question. I just really want people to enjoy what I write about, and hopefully find it helpful in some way.  I don't know exactly what the future holds. I really love working on my site, so I guess I'll see where it takes me. A few years from now you will probably find me working in some form of fashion, or trying to turn StreetStyleChi into much bigger and better things. When you do what you love, it isn't really a job.

DM: Describe your personal style.

AM: I am a nontraditional prep, mixing sneaker wedges with a floral dress, or throwing a baseball hat on with a silk skirt. My personal style changes day to day, and depends on how I feel that morning. One day you can catch me in leather sweats, the next in an ultra feminine sun dress. I do not like to look like anyone else, so I don't pay too much attention to current trends. I know what works for my body and stick with it. I really like to mix it up and pair things in unexpected ways.

DM: Who are your personal fashion influencers?

AM: I am kind of all over the place in that regard. I definitely have a few people that I follow for style inspiration, like Blake Lively, Nicole Richie and Eva Chen, but I mainly get inspiration from random sources. There are a few people on Instagram that I follow because I love their looks and how they style things in unexpected ways. I have an album on my phone where I'll save looks I see, whether it's snapping a picture of a magazine page or screen shooting a cool outfit combo, and when I am stuck later on, I go back and look at those.

DM: What do you think is the best way for a fashion brand to gain exposure online?

AM: Blogging and social media go hand in hand. The way we use social media has changed blogging vastly, and I really try to take advantage of that through Instagram and Twitter. I think brands are doing the same thing. One of the many great things about social media is that it gives brand followers access to the brand in a more intimate way. There are so many tools to utilize between social media and other tools online. I think there are endless ways for brands to gain exposure, it's just a matter of being creative.
