BLOGGER // CHELSEA TUBBS
Jun 02, 2014

We're thrilled to have Chelsea join the D'Marie publisher network. Read our full interview below!

DM: Start from the beginning... Why and when did you start blogging?

CT: I started blogging three years ago, shortly after my daughter was born. Chelsea & The City originally began as a way for me to work through all of the creative energy that was starting to build up as I transitioned into staying at home with her. Over the course of a few years it really evolved into a place for me to visually chronicle my style and design journey in a personal way.

DM: Tell us about a successful experience working with a blogger network, brand or advertiser on your website. Why do you think it was successful?

CT: Through trial and error, I’ve learned to be very selective with the partnerships I introduce on my blog. It’s important to me that my readers can trust my recommendations so I’ve made it a point to only work with brands and advertisers (like Harrods, and recently, Dolce & Gabbana cosmetics) that I genuinely wear and love offline as well. One of the worst things a blogger can do, in my opinion, is partner with the wrong companies for the wrong reasons. Free products are wonderful, but your voice and your blog's integrity are what's most important.

DM: Describe your personal style. Who are your personal style influencers?

CT: Fashion blogging is really the perfect venue for nailing down your personal style. Over the lifespan of the blog, I’ve made some serious missteps (like crazy pattern mixing or wearing colors that just didn’t feel like ‘me’), but I’ve definitely emerged with a strong sense of what does work. My style is very minimal and modern but also classic. I’m currently working on paring down my wardrobe to a collection of neutral pieces that speak to a philosophy of style before fashion.

As far as influencers are concerned, since I spend most of my time online and exploring social media, I’m inspired by other bloggers like Sara Donaldson of Harper & Harley, though Jenna Lyons, the creative director of J.Crew, will always be my ultimate fashion inspiration. She has a way of mixing different pieces that’s so unexpected, but totally works. It’s that type of creativity that makes style so much fun!

DM: What is your goal with the blog?

CT: Right now I’m working on adding a few more feathers to my creative cap. I’m styling an editorial shoot, getting back into creating art off of the computer screen and, hopefully, opening an e-commerce site in correlation with the blog. My goal, from a business perspective, is to have a hand in multiple creative endeavors under the Chelsea & The City umbrella so that I can continue to grow the blog’s quality and reach. Ultimately I hope readers are able to take away a little bit of me, my story and my style, and are inspired to wear, create and do things they may not have considered.
