Venus Miller is the blogger and editor behind Pinkklipstick fashion blog. Her blog hosts conversations covering fashion, beauty and lifestyle. Her approach to fashion is fun and completely relatable. DM: Start from the beginning. Why did you start blogging? 

VM: I started blogging through Youtube with my beauty channel back in 2009.  I was attending graduate school at the University of Michigan at the time and could not commit fully to updating my content on a regular basis. I was able to establish a decent following during that period on my youtube channel with a couple of my videos gaining over 20,000 views and 700 followers organically.  After I graduated from graduate school in 2011 I decided to move from Michigan to Atlanta.  I relaunched my official blog, pinkklipstick.com shortly thereafter in January 2013.  I would say I was practicing and testing the waters back in 2009 - 2012 and decided to move full steam ahead in 2013 to follow my passion and commit any extra time that I had to building pinkklipstick as a blog and brand.  

DM: Tell us about one successful experience you've had working with a brand or designer?

VM: My largest success story working with a brand on my website would have to have been with Versona Accessories, a boutique jewelry store based in the southeast.  It was successful because I was able to drive interest and introduce my loyal followers to Versona, even to those that do not have access to Versona in their hometowns. I think that this is what being a blogger is all about connecting the people with brands that they may not have known about otherwise and because you are a trusted source, they are sure to try the product/brand that you endorse on your site.

DM: Describe your personal style.

VM:  My personal style would have to be Boho Chic with a mix of masculine and androgynous elements.  My style influencers are Rachel Zoe, Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and believe it or not Rhianna.

DM: What are your career goals? What do you hope to accomplish with the blog?

VM:  My ultimate goal for my blog is to turn it into a media/branding company, a ready-to-wear online boutique, and for pinkklipstick to be the go-to destination for all things fashion/beauty related.  I would like to do all of this while maintaining the basic element of the blog in addition to adding a philanthropic element into it.  More specifically, I would like to create a charity focusing on the educational well-being of youth in urban areas, such as in my hometown of Detroit.

DM: Where are your favorite places to shop?

VM: My favorite places to shop would be local boutiques and thrift shops.  I love supporting up and coming designers and entrepreneurs.  My favorite boutique currently would have to be Dress Up and I love Goodwill!
